Description
nbsp;Where do I start? Great Looking and fun to drive, a real numbers matching engine, carb., transmission and rear end make this a very rare and sought after real Olds 442 Muscle car with some nice W30 upgrades! It was built in the Fremont California Oldsmobile plant and spent its entire life in Southern California until the present owner purchased the car in 2001 and moved it to Boise, Idaho.
Mechanically, It was delivered from the factory with big valve C Casting heads and standard G Casting block configuration, rated @ 325HP when coupled with the Turbo 400 Automatic Transmission. Currently equipped with the original G-Casting block as evidenced by the matching body VIN# number stamped on the raised pad on the left side of the engine block. In 2004, it was totally rebuilt and blueprinted by Valley Crankshaft of Boise, Idaho. A complete W30 option package was added including very rare D Cast high performance Olds heads rebuilt with new valves and hardened valve seats to run un-leaded fuel (a set of correct C heads are included with the car). The Rochester Quadra Jet Carb is the original numbers matching casting #7028251 while the Intake manifold is a new 2005 reproduction Oldsmobile aluminum casting #18436572 W455 W30 Intake from TAMRAZ’s Parts Warehouse (The original factory intake manifold is included). The Exhaust Manifolds are new reproduction with correct XY castings (a set of Hooker Hi Temp coated high performance headers will also be included with the car). The exhaust runs through an excellent Dynomax system installed at Boise Muffler in 2002. The transmission is the correct OG code, however there is no VIN # stamped into the case, completely rebuilt in 2003 by Final Round Performance of, Nampa, Idaho, along with deep aluminum oil pan and a mild TCI shift kit. The rear end is the original SC code (original 3:08 non posi-track unit) rebuilt with a 3:42 Eaton posi-track module. All new front suspension bushings, rear suspension upper and lower control arm bushings with new Hotchkis components. All work done by Jims Driveline Service of Boise, Idaho, in 2001. You get the idea!!
Dyno tested, it recorded 360 H.P. @ 5000 RPM and 444 Lb Ft. Torque @ 3200 RPM. Total investment in Engine overhaul was in excess of $6,000. (Dyno and work order documentation are available). This configuration has run 13.57 ET at 101 MPH (density altitude of 4700 ft.) at the NHRA sanctioned Firebird Raceway at Boise, Idaho. It has won several event class championships in Original Street Muscle and local Sportsman Bracket competition. Mind altering horsepower, and stomach churning torque cruising, this ride is quik and very drivable! On to the cosmetics!
A complete driver quality re-finish in 2001 with Dupont Viper Red, Black Hood stripes and black Olds 442 fender stripes on a good solid body (non original color, the paint is starting to show some age up close, but at 10 ft. it is very rich and shiny and makes this car a real looker). At the same time, Red W-30 inner fenders were installed (the original black inner fenders will go with the car), complete outside air induction system, original 1968 Olds 442 OAI air cleaner, induction tubes and correct under the bumper inlet cowlings! Rare Goodies and a Nice Touch! The convertible top and motor were installed new by the previous owner and they are in excellent condition and work very well. The black boot cover is also in excellent condition. The body trim moldings on the car are complete. (another complete, good quality, additional set purchased on Ebay are included). The interior including the front seats and door panels are only fair in appearance and are fine as a weekend driver but certainly should be replaced if you seek a better appearance. The dash is cracked and the plastic dash bezel is in poor condition. An excellent replacement dash (no cracks or imperfections), dash bezel and Speedo/Odo/Fuel Gauge are included. The present owner had too much fun driving this car and did not take the time to do the interior and dash restoration! It is a factory Air Conditioned Car but it is not installed (AC compressor and mounting brackets are included) There is No heater core, Heater inoperative). High quality after market engine gauges are installed under dash. (a replacement console with lid and a replacement glove box lid are also included) Finally, The odometer has not been operable on this car since purchased and no representation as to actaul mileage is extended. The odometer presently reads 64,832 but again the present owner is not able to represent mileage.
In closing, a great driver with excellent eyeball! Tons of REAL Potential and priced very fairly, this one will go fast in more ways than one!! This is a rare and beautiful driver quality true high performance convertible muscle car that could easily be restored to show quality standards. Or, if preferred, can be driven “As Is” for some unbelievable fun! Pending Sale! EASY FINANCING GOOD LUCK!!!!
Known Items: A real 442 convertible but NOT a W30! Very mechanically sound and tight!! All resting on a dry documented California body to the present Idaho owner!! Over $27,000 in work order history and documentation (plus original purchase cost of $10,500 is available for this car). Door hinges showing typical weakness. Let the detailed 3 web pages of pictures and above text tell the rest of the story!! As always, Not Perfect and Not New but one heck of a "REAL 442 CONVERTIBLE" driver, priced to sell!!
