Description

This vehicle was purchased on February 14, 1968 at Walter and Lennertz Oldsmobile, 6501 S. Broadway, Gary Indiana by Edith Combs. It was explained to me that it was her Valentines gift to herself. This vehicle was her baby and she vowed never to sell it. She lived in Anderson, Indiana until she could no longer take care of herself. She moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida in February 1986 to live with her son John. When the Car was registered in Florida on February 4, 1986 the registration showed 60,000 actual miles, (I have a copy of it). The car was rarely driven and mostly parked in her son’s carport. Edith Unfortunately passed on and her son inherited the car on March 12, 1986 according to the title (I have a copy). The car was not driven but around 600 miles for the next twelve years. On August 10, 2001 John did the unthinkable and sold his moms car to Jim Washington for $500. The car at this point did not run and was towed to Jim’s house where he was going to restore it. The car sat another three years without running. In February 2004 Jim lost the car in a poker game to Jonathan Waiters. The car was towed to Jonathan house and sat outside for about two weeks before I saw it while working as a cop. When I approached the Jonathan and begged him to sell the car, he had no idea what he had. He thought it was just an old Oldsmobile. I have owned five 1968 olds 442’s and once I saw it I couldn’t believe it. I bought the car from him on February 29, 2004 for $500, the amount that Jim owed him for the poker game. While the tow truck driver was hooking up the car to go to my garage Jonathan brought out the title and a folder to give to me. I about fell over when I opened the folder and found the protecto plate and all original manuals that went with the car. I immediately started researching the car. It took almost a 1 ½ years but I have located copies of all title’s and registrations that the car has ever had. It took lots of money but it was worth it for this car. Once the title was recorded into my name the restoration started. I documented the car with photos and started taking it apart and cataloging all parts. Every piece was taken off and restored to the original condition. It was a no expense spared, concourse, rotisserie restoration that took almost 2 years and $70,000 dollars to make perfect. The vehicle now shows 60730 miles and is possibly the nicest 68 442 convertible in the country. The restoration began February 29, 2004 and ended November 25, 2005. It was an unmolested numbers matching true 442 convertible. The vehicle was taken apart piece by piece and cataloged. Every piece of this car was restored to its original condition. No expense was spared on this concourse rotisserie restoration. Most of the restoration receipts that go with this car! The body was taken off and put on a body cart. All body panels and doors were removed and stripped of there contents. The body and all body panels were dipped and sealed by GT Graphics & Customs. The engine and drive train were removed from the frame and rebuilt to the factory specifications by Doug’s service center. The frame was also dipped and powder coated. All chrome on the car was removed and redone by Pot metal restorations and Willsey Polishing and plating. The paint and body work was done by GT Graphics and Customs. The paint is flawless and is a perfect 10. There are no tape lines anywhere on the door jams or on the car. The paint alone cost over $25,000. The radio and 8-track player were restored by The Parts Place in Chicago. The interior was removed and restored by Manatee Auto Trim. The seat frames were dipped, sealed, and painted. The interior kit was obtained by Original Parts Group, It was original factory material used. Numerous little parts for the car were purchased from, The Parts Place, Year one, Original Parts Group, Brothers automotive, Ames Performance, Bob Anderson, 442.com and numerous eBay listings. There are countless hours in this car to make it a 100 point perfect car." In Closing, make sure you visit the 3 we-pages of detailed photo's! Data Decode Below! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!
