Description

The Opel Blitz, they called it "Schnellastwagen" in 1957, which means: "Fast-Driving Truck", is able to drive over 110km per hour. The comfortable driving speed is 60 to 65 miles per hour. They were very popular and reliable all purpose vehicles in Germany, first built in 1931 with a 6 cylinder engine from GM - Buick. In 1934 Opel provided the engine, but one still can see it's origin. After World War II Opel resumed production in 1952 and the trucks, with just the body modified, helped to rebuild the country. Only a few trucks of this model were well preserved and very few can be found. This Fire-Truck was built in 1957, all original and in wonderfully preserved condition. Probably the only one of it's kind in the U.S. The interior is all wooden, including seats for 9 fire fighters. It is equipped with a fully functional pump, which is driven by the engine (200 gpm, 150 psig). The truck is about 18 ft long, 6 ft wide and 7 1/2 ft in height. The truck was an award winner at the German Old-Timer meeting. The vehicle was shipped from Germany in 2001. It was still in active service at the time of shipping, which explains it's well preserved condition. It was previously owned by a small paper making company located in southwest Germany. It served them as their factory fire truck. Before that it belonged to the voluntary fire brigade in Eisenbach (Black Forest). They had it from the first owner, the fire brigade of Buchenbach (near Freiburg), who owned the truck from 1957 until 1976. There is a copy of the original German title for reference.
