Description

Simply amazing is the Heart and Soul of this Beauty! This lady comes from across the pond, New Zealand designed, built and fashioned to capture the Art Deco Era! The previous owner/artist/author Barb Sundgren of Tauranga, New Zealand, in her own her own words, is "A staunch petrol-head, a semi-retired Naturopath, a wannabe artist, a struggling author, a loving grandmother, an intrepid adventurer and an enthusiastic traveler." Her vision was designed, assembled and built by a Kiwi Hot Rodder named Colin Prouse.

This Motor Car's impressive resume is rather interesting and very strong, 2005 New Zealand NSRA Grand National Champion, Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival (Best Custom), 2006 Good Guys Summer Get Together (Staff Pick), Sacramento Concourse De Elegance and more! Even George Barris has signed dash!! It is scheduled to be in Street Rodder June 07, Top 10 Choice! This one's a Honey! Now on to the specs!

The sexy open air body is a high quality fiberglass 1936 Ford Roadster reproduction with steel extended "Rootlieb" hood and side panels. It was massaged & finished in a tasteful cream/tan DeBeer basecoat/clearcoat laid on by ex Boyd Coddington painter Willie Johnstone. Other features include 1939 LaSalle Grill (un-restored/original/fitted to 36 Ford frame), vintage Edmonds & Jones polished landing/headlamps (circa 1925), modified 1925 Ford cowl lights as park/tan lamps, 1938 Plymouth tail lights, De Soto 3-rib alloy bumpers, Swan Neck Mirrors, Electric wipers Gattling gun exhaust ends and a sexy Vargus Girl!

The sexy legs start with an original/stock 1940 Ford chassis fitted with stock Ford front/rear suspension, Superbell I-beam dropped axle, stock steering box, 1940 Ford rear axle with a RARE "Ryan 33% Overdrive" attached to the front of the stock differential and 1940 Ford Juice Brakes/Master. Rounding out the rolling stock is Mercury Wheels/Tires, Front: 15x6 w/Coker 205/75/15 wide white walls, Rear: Mercury 15x7 w/Coker 225/75/15 wide white walls and all have Baby Moon hubcaps and beauty rings.

Power under the hood is a bored/stroked "Mercury Flathead V8", Offenhauser finned alloy heads, Isky 77B camshaft, Johnson adjustable lifters, Offenhauser four barrel intake, Holley 465 4V Carb, Mallory electronic ignition, custom polished aluminum Air-Mobile radiator, 2800 cfm cooling fan and performance headers! Sweet!! Transfer of power is handled by a 1940 Ford 3-speed manual trans with column shift.

Hop inside to a supple pleated Tan leather 1940 Ford Tudor split bench (to allow access behind the seat), matching pleated door panels, marine carpet, 40 Ford steering wheel with Mercury horn ring, 1933 Cadillac full instrumentation and a Bloody loud AM/FM CD stereo that only plays old music!

In closing, I will share comments from the feature New Zealand magazine article on this Grand National Champion "The style is straight from the late thirties and was built to resemble the type of car stars such as Clark Gable would drive. It would take its place easily among the classic Auburns and Duesenbergs in a Pebble Beach setting." GOOD LUCK!!!!

Known Items: Free and Clear private party Arizona title. This is a fair weather car with no convertible top which comes with European style driving cover. The Ryan Overdrive needs to be manually switched and is operated in O-drive under most all circumstances, no need to switch. Typical Flathead oil seepage. Now as I always say, Not Perfect and Not New (none are) but this is one fine Art Deco HONEY with tons of notoriety!
