Description
A rare "Charitable Donation" comes to you! In 1930, 76,158 Essex coupes and sedans were produced! If you can believe it, only 35 are documented by the Hudson-Essex-Terrapalne Club! Let's see, 35 known to exist and this lady sports an amazing 30,779 actual miles! Really? This one is virtually original in almost every way possible! It's serial # is 1198390, part of the 2nd Series of this production run. A 113” wheel base and a 2,965lb curb weight. The original list price was an amazing $650.00! It's powered by it's original 6 cylinder 160 c.i. vertical “L” head engine with a 2 ¾” bore and a Cork-Faced clutch rides in a Oil Bath! Wearing original upholstery, headliner and a wonderfully solid original Body, Frame and Power-Train! A Vintage 1930 "Trippe-Speedlight” helps light the way! And the best thing is she is running and driving great! Read on for More!!
In 2001, this vehicle was donated to the Idaho Youth Ranch, a 50 year old, licensed-accredited-non profit organization that serves troubled children and their families! A generous couple from Emmett, Idaho allowed this low mile jewel to rest quietly in the garage for many years where she remained pretty much untouched! No longer having an interest, rather than sell it, they decided it was best to donate it to their favorite charity! Thank You!
The CEO of Idaho Youth Ranch decided that rank had it privilege and he would personally take charge of getting this wonderful lady back on the road! Although she had always been garaged, the last time she had been enjoyed was 8 plus years! It was in need some TLC to revive her to her original Putt-Putt character! Cosmetically she had survived well and the basic expected things needed tended to! The CEO called on local Boise Business's to assist in her revival and they jumped to the task! All donated! A local Radiator Shop boiled and resealed the rusty gas tank and oil pan, a local Muffler Shop replaced a rusted tailpipe! A Machine Shop built special tools, an Electrical Shop rebuilt her horn, a Tire Dealer mounted new tires, a Body Shop repainted the fenders and a Mechanic took care of the fine adjustments! Wow! Since that time, it has been used in car shows and parades for public relations purposes. This car was featured on the cover of the White Triangle News, official publication of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club in November, 2002! Students of the Ranch dressed period correct for the Cover Shot!
In closing, after some public relations duties, she is on her way to you! A perfect addition to any collection! Big or Small! All for a worthwhile cause, your generous bids will be appreciated and put to good use! All of the proceeds of this sale will go to the Idaho Youth Ranch! Inquire? You can call Jim @ 1(877)243-9327! GOOD LUCK!!!!
Known Items: The body is very solid with no signs of rust! The fenders have recently been professionally refinished. It appears portion's of the body (Blue) have been refinished once in her life but many many years ago! I would say the paint is in character and fits her originality very well! This Car is virtually original in almost every way! 30,700 Actual Miles! Original upholstery, headliner and carpet! The rubber floor mat in the front is not only original, it isn’t even worn through under the gas pedal. The rubber running boards are also the originals! Runs and Drives well, as it was designed!
Non-original parts/modifications: Starter solenoid instead of starter switch. Door mounted rear-view mirror (replica of aftermarket product sold in 1930) Trippe “Speedlight” (original aftermarket product sold in 1930). It has been rewired & repainted using original style cloth covered wiring and period paint. New whitewall tires.
Noted Issues: Small dent in trunk (silver dollar sized), Windshield wiper doesn’t work, Gas gauge doesn’t work (believed to be a sender issue), Small tear in roof (repaired), Windshield opening latch is missing. The rest is in the pictures!
Comes With: Extra carb, Extra vacuum tank, Custom tools (wheel puller and clutch drain wrench), Rim spreader, Large volume of accumulated research on virtually all aspects of the car (engine, electrical system, etc.)
Not Perfect and Not New but a GREAT SURVIVOR! Make sure you visit all of the pictures, including the sub-page for the rest of the story! Paul Harvey!
